After one day without power, it was quickly apparent that I didn’t want to live without it for a minute. Millions of people were without power across the US. Not one of my family members nor friends wanted to go a second without power. I can confidently speak for everyone who has lost power due to any of the recent storms when I say living without power is no fun at all. It was a terrible inconvenience. No lights. No air conditioning. None of the things that make our lives efficient or connected. We were all miserable to say the least. Could we be living miserable lives, even on good days, because we aren’t living with all the power God offers? Our ideas are dim. Our way is ambiguous. It’s frustrating because work takes longer to get done when you don’t have power. Life gets really manual and labor intensive. Do you want power? More importantly, do you want God’s power? Below, I share a few powerful tips on getting God’s power flowing freely in your life!
Admit that your performance suffers in life because God’s power isn’t flowing in your life.
Simply saying, “Lord, we don’t want to live without your power. You made it available to us when we said, ‘Yes’ to you. We plug into your heart and mind. Let the power in you flow unhindered to our lives. Light us up. Fire us up. Power us up! Living without God’s power is like being alive but not living; having eyes but no sight; rhythm but no soul; gas but nowhere to go; sound but no voice. We don’t want to be intentionally paralyzed because we don’t have your power. We want His power. It gives heartbeat, breathe, pulse, movement and meaning. From Genesis’ “let there be light” to Revelation’s “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all. AMEN.” Our lives are brighter and better, meaningful and merciful because of you.
Ask God to fill us with His power.
Honestly, when our power went out, I was tempted to go buy a generator. We needed power and since we couldn’t get it seemed right to manufacture it. Be careful. Manufactured power gives off deadly fumes. God’s power never gives off deadly fumes. Let Him fill you! He will fill every nook and cranny; from the top of our heads to the bottoms of our feet; from our right to left finger tips; from the inside out. When His power fills us, it gives us the sparks to ignite a spiritual revolution; shout that brings walls that divide us down; momentum that moves ministry and missions forward. We ask God to give us power to live right. Power to talk right. Power to witness right. Power!
You filled power to Jesus to save, set free and deliver. You gave power to Moses to lead oppressed people to freedom. You gave power to Joshua to lead a new generation of people. You gave power to Gideon to win a war with a dwarfed army. You gave power to the disciples to spread the Gospel. You gave to Peter and Paul to preach your Gospel.
Isaiah 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. 29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. 30 Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31 Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
As much as we want your power, we want your presence even more.
In your presence, there is fullness of joy! You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. We know where to go because He directs our paths. We make the best moves in life because He directs our paths. We enrolled in the right school, took the right job, made the right investments, stood for the right stance, married the right person all because He directed our paths.
Lastly, His power means we have access to His presence and in His presence, we have the fullness of joy. God gives joy. Not some joy. Not partial joy. Fullness of joy! God, we need your power and more importantly your presence.
